Mother's Day in Lagos

Jeremy lost his very first tooth.
Happy Mother's day to my mom, friends, mother-in-law, aunts, cousins, and readers who I haven't met yet.:).  I hope you all have a wonderful day with your children.:)  This morning, when the kids woke up, Jeremy said, "Mom, Lizzy and me are gonna listen to you because it is Mother's day!"  Wow! So, that must be the reason they don't listen to me the other days of the year????  Everything is crystal clear now!! ha ha
I have to start with the most important news today from our home...JEREMY LOST HIS FIRST TOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!

Since Guy is in Port Harcourt this weekend (Neither one of us realized when he planned his business trip that he would be gone over Mother's day.  He promised to make it up to me next weekend!:) ), the kids and I packed up and went to church this morning.  Later on, we had lunch with some friends and then, came home and talked to my parents on web cam.  It was so nice to be able to see my mom now that she is home from the hospital. I have to say that technology is wonderful.:)  The kids danced for my mom to one of their favorite songs for her Mother's day Gift from them.  It was so funny when Elizabeth came out with her pretend cookies and her little tea cups to have my parents "taste" her cookies and tea.  My mom pretended to look like she was tasting the tea as Lizzy put the spoon by the computer screen....both the kids thought that she could really taste the food.  I think I laughed so hard my belly hurt!:)

Here are a few gifts I received from my little ones for Mother's Day this year.:)
Jeremy made me two cards.:)
I love how he also wrote his last name in the card for me!:)

Lizzy painted a fan for me at school...very practical for Lagos!:)

The center of my table for Mother's day.:)

I had to put this in...we left the tooth for the tooth fairy under Jeremy's pillow.:)
It's funny sometimes how you just have to sit back and wonder why some things happen at the times they do.  I was going through Jeremy's closet last week cleaning out things he didn't need anymore.  I was thinking about how frustrated I had been with the kids that morning while I was trying to get them dressed, brushed teeth, eating breakfast, etc. ( I know you moms know the routine I am talking about.....most mornings I feel like a drill sergeant!)  Anyway, I reached up on to one of the shelves in his closet and found a folder I had shoved towards the back of the shelf and forgotten about.  (I must have put it up there when we moved in and completely forgotten about it.)  I pulled it down and saw that there were old receipts from when we were still living in Houston, and even a few old grocery lists from when I actually did my own grocery shopping.;)   Then, I looked a little more...and I almost felt like my breath was taken away.  I found the last Mother's Day card my grandma had given to me ...
As I opened it, I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her and miss her...
Her inscription said,
"For Special Meredith,

God has given you many blessings entrusting you with two precious gifts of his love. You are a loving, caring mom. Your children will revere and always love you.  Love and prayers full of pride are sent your way. Grandpa and Grandma"

I had to sit there for a few minutes and just stare at the card.  I really could not have found this card at a more perfect time, and her message made me remember that my children are two very special gifts I have been given.  Being a mom is one of the hardest, most thankless, time consuming jobs anyone could ever take on.  So, why do we as moms choose to become moms???   For those toothless grins, those tight hugs, and those precious words that every mother loves to hear...." I love you."

For all of you moms out there, I wish you a very blessed and Happy Mother's day all the way from Lagos, Nigeria!!!  No one but another mother could ever know how hard you work!  Enjoy your special day!:)
