Leaving Lagos

On September 17, we headed out of Lagos. We boarded a bus on our compound at 4 p.m. and were escorted by a lead vehicle and a chase vehicle to the mainland of Lagos. It's kind of funny how I almost don't even notice that there are armed guards in the trucks in front of us or behind us. The bus was very crowded, and of course, Elizabeth was wanting to wave and "talk" to everyone.:) I was hoping that she would fall asleep, but she didn't. Jeremy was really good, and he was so excited to ride on another airplane. We made it to the airport in a reasonable amount of time...i think it was about an hour or so. We checked in our bags without too much hassle ( we checked three bags and also had three empty bags to bring stuff back in). Then, we went to the gate and had to wait. Since it is very dangerous to travel to the mainland after the sun goes down ( burglars and robbers usually are out on the streets at night) the bus from our compound leaves at 4 p.m. and it is the last bus going to the airport. So, if your flight isn't until 11 p.m. you have to just sit and wait at the airport. Believe me, this airport is not one you really want to sit and wait in. I was really happy I took other people's advice and brought my own toilet paper. There is never any in the airport. Our flight was at 9:30, so it wasn't too bad. I changed the kids into some comfortable clothes, and we ate some ham and cheese rolls that Happiness had made for us. Elizabeth made a new friend at the airport and I thought I would post the picture of them together. That little girl can make friends wherever she goes!:)
